The Groden Network’s founder June Groden, Ph.D. along with Leslie Weidenman, Ph.D. and Cooper Woodward, Ph.D. contributed a chapter in the informative new book, “Understanding and Treating Anxiety in Autism: A Multi-Disciplinary Approach.”
Chapter 9 discusses both stress and autism individually and, most importantly, in relation to each other. The bulk of research done in stress and anxiety is conducted with neurotypical individuals. Because nearly two-thirds of people with autism have intellectual disabilities (ID), this is a cause for concern. The Groden Network is the first organization to acknowledge that stress, especially stress reduction, is a huge factor in working with clients with autism. Utilizing Dr. Groden’s Cognitive Picture Rehearsal (CPR) along with other techniques provides opportunities to decrease stress and improve the health and wellness of autistic individuals.
